Plural posessive nominal adjectives

Boys (boys') basketball tryouts will start tomorrow.

Girls (girls') soccer tryouts have ended.

are these posessive nouns as adjectives or just plural.

If posessive, they should of course have the apostrophe, and if not, then why not?
