Fortunately for them, the Bank of England has a team called Mutilated Ladies which deals with claims from people who fed their money to a machine or to their dog. Dogs, it seems, love to chew up money!

their dog -- singular
Dogs -- plural
it -- singular

Why the noun dog is so various here, why isn't it coherent?

Fortunately for them, the Bank of England has a team called Mutilated Ladies which deals with claims from people who fed their money to a machine or to their dog. (This is speaking of one person and their pet who chewed up some money.)

Dogs, (In general, all dogs) it seems (it seems to me, I understand), love to chew up money!
