Hi,what are the plurals of Discman and Walkman? I've seen both Discmen and Discmans on the internet.

I agree with Madhulk.

As both Discman and Walkman are proprietary names of Sony products, they are more easily understood when referring to them in the plural as Discmans and Walkmans. It 'feels' grammatically incorrect to refer to them as such, but if you say Discmen or Walkmen to an elderly person, chances are the may think that you are referring to something entirely different, maybe even some kind of men and not electronic CD players.

Some products of famous brands have replaced verbs in their own right, for instance I often hear people say: I must hoover the carpet today

- when in fact they mean: I must vacuum the carpet today.

The word hoover has become synonymous with, and used as, an everyday verb to describe an action where once it was only referred to as a noun, the brand name: Hoover.

Similarly, the Walkman has almost replaced the term CD player with some people simply referring to one as a Walkman whether it is a branded Walkman or not.

So, I would say go with Discmans and Walkmans. People will be in no doubt to what you mean, however inelegant it sounds.
