Plural and singular, same sentence

Hi

Why is there a difference in

Women (plural?) attracting pheromones and

Mosquito (singular?) repelling plants?

Why is 'women' in the plural and 'mosquito' in the singular? These words are used in the same type of sentence.

Thanks!

Yes, and probably hyphenated as well.
