I came across this sentence: "We both had cuts on our head."
Why head is used in singular? It sounds to me something like they share the same head. Shouldn't it be used the plural?
" The meaning is the same. The reason that the singular is used in the first one is apparently for ease in pronunciation. A final "s" is rather difficult to pronounce in English, and having two of them in a row, "cuts" and "heads", is doubly difficult, and so the second final "s" is dropped.
