If there are two men by the name Charles, and they both have wives, how do I form the genitive? Charleses' wives ? The wives of Charleses ? Or something totally different?

You can say the Charleses' wives , or the wives of the Charlese s. They both sound awkward, though.

In the highly unlikely situation that I would want to refer to the wives of two men named Charles, I suppose I would speak of the wives of both Charleses.
