Plunged, tumbled, and slumped

Hi,

Question:

For each BLUE word in my sentence, do they mean?

reduced a lot within a short period?

reduced a lot?

reduced quickly?



Sentence:
The price plunged, tumbled, and slumped from $1000 to $200.

Plunge = decrease very sharply and deeply Tumble = decrease sharply, but not quite so sharply or deeply as 'plunge'. Slump = fall back, as if losing energy, from a higher position. Not as deep a decrease as 'plunge' or 'tumble'.

Slump = fall back, as if losing energy, from a higher position. Not as deep a decrease as 'plunge' or 'tumble'.

Having said that, I'll add that every financial writer probably has his own concept of the differences.

Plunged = Think of diving into a swimming pool. You quickly go down.

Tumbled = Think of rolling down a hill. You go down, but not as quickly as a plunge.

Slumped = When you are tired or discouraged, your shoulders often lower. They go down, but it's usually caused by many things over a longer period of time.
