Thanks, Mr. Wordy. The reason I said not straight away was that the plug is somewhat broken. You need to twist it or find the right angle in order to get electricity into the phone. Otherwise, the phone just sits there doing nothing even though the plug is in the socket.
Sure, I see that. What I mean is that "Sometimes, it doesn't charge straight away" sounds a bit like it doesn't complete charging straight away. Obviously it doesn't -- it will take a while, even if everything is working correctly.
