Pls put this in past tense; I may/might as well go home.

Hello!

Would you be so kind to tell me how I can put "may/might as well" into past tense?

I may/might as well go home.

This sentence is describing my feeling of present moment, right?

If I want to put it in past tense, how should I say?

For example, if I look back the feeling two days later,

and want to tell about the feeling to someone,

how should I say in natural English?

The only two ideas I could think of are as follows but I am not at all confident.

(At that time,) I thought I may/might have as well go home.

(At that time,) I thought I may/might as well have gone home.

Looking forward to having your kind help......

Warmest regards,

Masayo

In the past, it would be

"I might as well have gone home."

If you want to talk about your thought (or feeling), then
In the present, it
