Pls help. Two questions

Hi, I've two questions:

1. Is this correct? "It has been a long time not seeing you. How have you been?"

2. Can I shorten the above sentence to "It has been a long time."? (with the same meaning)

It's been a long time. (I'm sure this would be understood even without the since I saw you part.
