Pls help me with the meaning of a sentence

Can any one please explain the meaning of the sentence below?
I really doubt what the "I was up for renewal from my old Treo 750" means.

I had the choice of getting an iPhone when I was up for renewal from my old Treo 750, but I chose the BlackBerry Bold (my first BlackBerry) for two reasons - I wanted a keyboard, and my employer will not let any iPhones connect to their server (security reasons), but we have tens of thousands of BlackBerry users connected

Thanks in advance,

"I was up for renewal from my old Treo 750" just means "I was due to renew/replace my old Treo 750". This renewal/replacement might be something to do with the renewal of a contract (a financial agreement with a phone company), or it might just mean that this person thought his/her phone was getting old and wanted a fancier newer one.
