Pls help me correct two sentences, thank you

Mark persisted in blaming grace for the cause of all mischief. However, grace hadn't done anything wrong but to bear it with the most forbearing courtesy; her good breeding carried her through it all.

Thks, is it a better way to say "the most patient" than "the most forbearing courtesy"? And is it required to add "had" before "carried her through it all"?

I offered patient courtesy as a possible alternative to forbearing courtesy mainly because you had bear and forbearing close together. You can use whichever you prefer. Either would work fine.
As far as had is concerned, it would be consistent with hadn't and had borne elsewhere in the sentence, but since it is part of a separate clause I don't
