The majority of breast, cervical and thyroid cancer patients were found to have early stage cancer (78.4%, 82.6% and 79.4% respectively). Bui Dieu’s study: There was more or less a haft of breast and thyroid cancer patients found to have stage I and II. This research saw the high percentage of breast and cervical cancer patients come to the hospital at an early stage of their diseases. Screening for early detection of these types cancer is one of the focus activities of the national cancer control programmes. These results hint that the first step was effective. However, due to the network of cancer prevention and the funding have been still limited. In fact, the rate of breast and cervical cancer cases detected at an early-stage was higher than other types of cancer but still quite modest. Therefore, health education and screening activities for early detection of breast and cervical cancer in particular and other kinds of cancer in general need more attention.

From the study we found that most cancer patients (43.8%) underwent surgery for their treatment and 27.5% took symptomatic treatments. Our study differed from the statistics of Islam Md.Fokhrul: Chemotherapy was the most common method (34.1%), the proportion of surgery plus chemotherapy was 22.8%. Surgical method accounted for large proportion of our research because we only conducted on newly diagnosed and treated cancer cases without following-up cancer patients in the next treatments. This was also the weakness in our study. On the other hand, symptomatic treatment took up high percentage due to the fact that some cancer patients did not have enough condition to continue treatment and others wanted to move to the upper level hospitals. There should be policies to encourage and support the cancer patients who were in difficult circumstances; increasing investments into infrastructure, human resources and give belief to cancer patients to continue treatments.
