The tables below give information about sales of Fairtrade*-labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries.



The tables show the amount of turnover of coffee and bananas of Fairtrade in five European countries, namely the UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden in two years, 1999 and 2004.

Overall, turnover of coffee experienced an upward trend in five countries, while bananas showed a downward trend in Denmark and Sweden.

In 1999, sales of Fairtrade about coffee were highest in Switzerland, at 3 millions of euros. Around 1,5 millions of euros was allocated for coffee by UK consumers in 1999. After 5 years, the turnover of Fairtrade coffee was highest in the UK, at 20 millions of euros. It enormously increased by 18,5 millions of euros. In Sweden, sales of Fairtrade coffee was lowest which around 0,8 millions of euros in 1999 and 1 millions of euros in 2004.

Around 15 millions of euros in 1999 and 47 millions of euros in 2004 were paid out for bananas by Switzerland spenders. Sals of Fairtrade bananas experienced an upward trend in the UK, Belgium with 5,5 and 4 millions of euros respectively in 1999, while it showed en downward trend in Sweden and Denmark. In 2004, sales of bananas decreased by 0,8 millions of euros in Sweden and by 1,1 millions of euros in Denmark.
