My essay:
People have differing views about the policy, raising fuel prices to solve environmental problems. While it is often stated that this solution is the most effective way to address a plethora of environmental problems, I would argue that it is just a stopgap measure and governments have to adopt many different policies to reduce detrimental impacts on the environment.
On the one hand, rasing petrol prices is one of the best ways to address a lot of environmental problems. First, this policy can reduce the number of exhaust fumes from transport. People tend to use public transports, such as buses and metro, that leads to mitigate traffic jams. Therefore, the pressure under the infrastructure of metropolises is enabled to relive. Second, the consumption of fuel can be dropped because of the high cost which becomes a great effect to reduce the exploitation of fuel. Nowadays, full exploitation of fuel like oil wells makes oil sources becomes rapidly exhausted. According to many expectations from scientists, the world will lack the fuel to transport, industrial production in the near future.
On the other hand, there are many reasons that lead me to believe that rasing fuel prices is a stopgap measure and governments should adopt many different policies to protect environments. First, governments have to subsidize the cost of fares on public transport. This way can encourage people to use public transport to commute instead of cars or personal vehicles. For example, in Da Nang city, the local authority established a bus system that is subsidized and has a suitable fare for everybody, especially workers and students. In this way, Da Nang's transportation became one of the best systems in Vietnam, which has the lowest number of traffic jams in the city center. Second, governments can educate people about environmental protection through environmental awareness campaigns. Schools in Vietnam, for instance, have taught environmental lessons in the curriculum content. This has many benefits to raising children's awareness. In many neighborhoods, the mottoes of environmental protection like "Reduce - Reuse - Recycle" or "Plastic bags need to disappear" affect people's awareness about how the environmental problems are detrimental to them and they need to take the action now.
In conclusion, it is true that the high cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles have contributed to solving a lot of problems in the environment. However, governments should adopt many alternative solutions, such as subsidizing the cost of fares on public transport and raising people's awareness through environmental awareness campaigns, to address many serious environmental problems.
