Topic: Some people think that physical strength is important for success in sport, while other people think that mental strength is more important. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
My essay:
People have differing views about the most important key to contribute successful athletes. While it often states that mental strength is the most necessary key, I would argue that physical strength is the most vital key to determine a successful sportsperson.
On the one hand, mental strength plays important role to a successful athlete. People can foster a competitive spirit to overcome many difficulties during the training time and failures. This helps them to stay focused on their goals and a win-at-all-cost attitude. Vietnamese football team, for example, had many underestimations about their ability and their historical accomplishment. However, by mental strength, they overcame detrimental comments to reach the top on U23 Asian Championship 2018.
On the other hand, there are many reasons that lead me to believe that physical strength is the basis of all success in sport. First, athletes have to use much their physical strength to show their ability that get appreciation from many examiners and mass, especially in judo or boxing. Most sport competitions have taken place to look for a champion, who is the best talented person in the sport. More physical strength they reach, more chances they reach the prize. Second, athletes who have stamina and endurance, can follow their career in the long term. For example, Anh Duc is one of the most famous football players in Vietnam. He reached the reputation and was acknowledged his talent when he was 33. In this age, there are few football players who in their heyday or continue their career. By his physical strength, he was chosen to take part in national football team when he was 33.
In conclusion, it is true that mental strength helps athletes to foster a competition spirit and stay focused on their aims, but I still believe that physical strength contributes a lot to become a champion and follow their career in the long term.
