Topic: Many governments think that economic progress is their most important goal. Some people, however, think that other types of progress are equally important for a country.?
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion

My essay:

People have differing views about the progress which are vital to country development. While it often stated that economic progress is the most important goal, I would argue that other types of progress have roles as important as economic progress.

On the one hand, economic progress is one of the most important aims which has many effects for every country. It contributes a lot to country development, included country's infrastructure and economic revenue. For example, Vietnamese government has made many reform and open - door policies to economic development, so optimist changes have taken place in Vietnam. Infrastructure is developing. The most obvious things is that the building is getting higher and the road is getting better and wider. Meanwhile, people' living standard have been greatly improved. People' income have increased.

On the other hand, there are many reasons that lead me personally to believe that governments should not be run with the sole aim of maximising profit, they have alternative progress as necessary as economic progress. Firstly, environment is one of the most serious problems which need to have more changes from governments. Nowadays, the amount of cacbon dioxide are increasing quickly because of varieties of reasons. Traffic jam and excessive using of air condition and motorbikes are popular reasons. Governments should have made strict laws to raise people' awareness about environmental protection. Singapore is one of the best country to take environmental protection seriously. Environmental progress is helpful and give people fresh air and water. People can develop their mental concentration as well as their physical fitness. Secondly, it is extremely important to develop education. High quality education system with equal opportunities for all people is benifical. The country will have well- educated workforce and their devotions will be based on country' development.

In conclusion, economic progress is essential, but I believe that governments should concentrate as much importance on health, education and environment as they do on economic progress.
