Can you pls help me to find the mistake in this sentence: "(On) the wall (opposite) to the door, there (was) a large (painting)
It is 1 of our questions in the test but I really do not know the answer.

You need correct punctuation, ie a period at the end. You don't need to say 'to', but it is not wrong if you do.

I suspect your teacher wants you to say 'opposite' is wrong because of the 'to' that follows it.
I think your teacher may say it should be eg 'next to'.
