I'm not sure what your "rule" is refering to. "I have a book to give you." "She has a song to sing." It might depend on the function of "to" in the particular sentence. Does your "rule" have any examples?

Hi Philip,

It seems obvious that I misunderstood the concept. With reference to the discussion, , I misunderstood that 'noun+to+ing' is a valid form instead of understanding 'Approach to' (Verbal phrase) + ing' is the valid form. This is one of the areas I struggle to understand. Any help is appreciated.
