Pls correct my text: Memorable event in childhood

Could you please correct and score my following text for the subject of "Memorable period or event in your childhood":

"I’d like to talk about the time when my little brother whom I get now on very well with, was born. I was 8 years old at that time. I still remember I was very excited of the new family member since I had been the only child for a long time. At that time, when the prenatal sex determination was still allowed, we were all told to expect a second daughter in the family. My mother bought then a lot of pink clothes for the baby.

In this night, while I was sleeping, my mother started to feel something, she took me to the house of my maternal grandmother which was nearby so that she would take care of me during my mother’s labor. Normally, my grandmother would have rushed me back to the bed. But not me neither my grandmother could sleep. We just kept awake and waited for the call from the hospital. And when the phone was ringing at the midnight, we were taken aback. It turned out that my sibling was a boy. Poor him, in his first 2 months, he was wearing pink color clothes all the time and recognised wrongly as a girl several times.

Now when he grow up into a very tall and handsome man, everytime I reminisce about it, I can’t help myself from laughing."
