As we discussed above subject and briefing once more,
Over a decade we have been exporting betel nuts from indonesia to india in big volumes, we all aware india is the biggest buyer and now that we have an opportunity to export the cargo from indonesia to Sri Lanka and do the processing or final touch in Sri Lanka and re export to india.
Sri Lanka do have areca nuts but quantity not much when we compare with indonesia, my company touches +/-6,000 tons per annum and total quantity exported from indonesia to india +/- 40,000 tons/annum, 95% goes via bangladesh in to india, bangladesh government has allowed all importers to import areca nuts and process the same, repack and re export to india.
Benefits for the country as follows,
immediately 150 labors will get jobs and maximum can go up to 500 labors or more to process/to repack we take 25% of the market share from above total quantity and works out to 10,000 tons per annum from indonesia we cannot touch 25% because many indians/bangladehis handling directly from indonesia we have ready buyers who are willing to import via Sri Lanka because of faster voyage and services provide by us. total value 10,000 tons X +/-US$1500 per ton (average price per annum) = +/- US$ 15,000,000.00 total revenue comes in to our country and surely not parked out side Sri Lanka Sri lankas logistic companies will have more volumes to carry and many companies will have super turn over as well.
