Is this sentence correct?

She was scribbling something funny on her notebook and I was sitting beside her. And when I took a look at the notebook, I simply could not stop my snickers. I'd to look beneath my chair so that the other people in the room don't see me laughing.

Thanks in advance

It's usually not considered good gramar to start a sentence with 'and'. And when I took a look at the notebook, I simply could not stop my snickers. I'd to not wrong, bu t 'had to' is usual and more emphatic look beneath my chair so that the other people in the room didn't don't see me laughing.

Just to add to Clive's explanation.

In the UK we say "snigger" and not "snicker". Snicker is a chocolate bar in the UK.
