It is a misprint for 'PLC' or 'plc', Jobb-- 'Public Limited Company', the designation which I think replaces 'Limited' (Ltd.)

I could not imagine that Bloomsbury's publication -- J.K.Rowling's Harry Potter would made such a mistake in its head page .
