Plot Summary The sauce for the goose by Patricia Highsmith

Olivia, the main character, seems to be depressed. Her husband, Loren, thinks she is trying to kill herself since some domestic accidents occurred the last weeks.

He assumed this because Olivia and him had made a pact about two and a half months ago.

She had promised him not to see or communicate with Stephen for three months, after this period of time she could decide to stay married to Loren or go with Stephen.

The problem was that she had an affair and fell in love with Stephen that was the reason why she wanted the divorce but Loren ask her to made this pact so she could be sure of being deeply in love with Stephen or not.

Actually, she and Stephen had another plan. Olivia were going to kill Loren and show her murder as it was a domestic accident.

That was exactly what happened. Police believe her story. After some months of Loren’s death she married Stephen.

They lived happily for a short period of time, till she perceived that he was trying to kill her, perhaps to take possession of the money and houses she’d got with her husband’s death.

One night when Stephen was setting a plan to kill Olivia, he suffered an accident and died frozen inside the huge deep freeze located in the basement.

Olivia could have saved him as she heard him begging for help in the deep freeze.

She waited one day to go and open the deep freeze door, when she did it, the deep freeze door closed suddenly leaving her inside the freezer, due to the tramp that Stephen had set before him accident. She also died frozen.
