Plot a scheme, walk all day

Hi,

1) I was watching an interview where an actor used the words 'plot a scheme'. I wanted to ask you if you consider it to be correct since 'plot' and 'scheme' are basically synonyms. Isn't it redundant to say 'plot a scheme'?

2) Is there a specific word you would use when you cover a big distance on foot? Let's say that you spent the whole day walking from one end of the forest to another. What about 'traipse'?

"We were traipsing around the forest for hours."

Or maybe 'tramp'?

Thank you.

1- I agree. That doesn't sound very good. I would use "devise a scheme".
