Please tell me which phrase is correct

A. "I sold my GBA only a few weeks before they released NDS"
B. "I sold my GBA only a few weeks earlier than they released NDS"

I'd say only the first one is correct. "than" requires parallel constructions.

I am inclined to agree with CJ that option A is better because the second sentence is a little unclear especially after a few reads. The second sentence, if still desired, should really be written as:

"I sold my GBA only a few weeks earlier than the date they released NDS"
