Please tell me how to explain this?

Does this make sense and can you picture the scene?
How would you correctly phrase the 2 sentences? Is uproot correct when talking about something other than a tree?

She tripped over a post that lay flat on the ground bent at a 90 degree angle not uprooted so much so that it looked like it had been driven into.

The lamp post had been uprooted from the tornado.
