Speech & Pronunciation

Please tell me about actual phonics education held in America.

I'm a student at a university in Japan and just started to collect information about "phonics" to write my graduation thesis.

My question is not about English grammar, but I really appreciate if you teach me how phonics education is held in America.

I want to know whether phonics is taught at public school ( in what state it is taught ) , how teachers teach it to students, and what curriculum they use.

Thanks,
Emi

Here is some background on how reading has been taught in North America and particularly in Ontario, Canada, over the last 40 years. You may already be aware of the so-called 'reading wars' between phonics and 'whole language'. com/opinion-story/4619392-the-ruinous-legacy-of-whole-language -/ Clive

Thank you for your reply. I read the web article and researched what has been happening about teaching reading skills in North America.

I found that Whole Language has been swept away, instead, phonics has been replaced to fill up with the hole that Whole Language made.

I also read the researches that National Reading Panel conducted in 2000 on Wikipedia. I found t

Which country are you asking about? And perhaps even which state or province?
