Both of them were going to go. They were going to go, they were going to go, they were going to go. Neither did go. They both stayed home.

It's pretty odd.

Of course they are grammatically correct, but the emphatic form (with "do") is rarely called for. Please try those two phrases in complete sentences, and ask about them.
