Please reword this sentence for clarity?

Holden's refusal of Allie's death leads to his loss of faith in the human race.

Holden cannot understand why God would let superficial people keep living yet kill Allie.

I'm trying to express the theme of how the destruction of his idealism makes him insecure and leads to his mental breakdown. His

I feel losing faith in the human race isnt the right word, others could be loss of faith in human progression? Understanding of world's cruelty -> Sadness through realization of world's cruelty and injustice.

I don't understand what you mean by "refusal of" here.

"superficial" doesn't seem to be the right word. I'm not sure what word you do

You can say "reliving his/her childhood". (It's not very natural to just say "reliving childhood".)
