Please revise my Motivation Letter for Scholarship

I am applying a Master Programme, which requires motivation letter for applying scholarship. It would be scored for vocabulary, grammar, cohesion and coherence as well as for argumentation. My mother language is not English. I would be very thankful, if there will be somebody who could give me any advise and correction.

Dear Sir/Madams:

I am writing to apply to XXUniversity scholarship programme. I’m now a senior student majoring in Biological Science at XX University, and expected to accomplish the bachelor degree in June, 2014. During undergraduate study, I have been enjoying a journey full of curiosity, creativity and achievements at the interface of Synthetic Biology, Molecular Biology and Microbiology. It is the excellent scientific journey that strengthens my confidence to become a biologist and encourages me to seek graduate education in XX programme at XX University.

I have been accumulating knowledge and skills for my career goal in abundant coursework and challenging research projects. My strong learning ability , along with my hardworking and self-driven personality, facilitated my success in coursework and knowledge collecting. I got high grade in almost all the courses and was ranked among the top 1% of undergraduates in our department. In virtue of my excellent performance in coursework and social work, I have been awarded with National Scholarship for three years.

My sound foundation derived from abundant coursework enable me to excel at my research projects. I was developed the ability of experimental design, data collecting and processing during my first attempt in ecological research concerned about the effect of plant community on microbial denitrification. Later, in our award-winning research project, I was elected as vice wet-lab leader, and my leadership was further improved and played a significant role in our excellent teamwork. In addition, the experience of characterizing biological parts equipped me with knowledge in advanced quantitative techniques including ELISA, flow cytometer and confocal microscopy. Our novel design and outstanding teamwork was awarded with Golden Prize in Asian Division. To be trained with more lab skills and different scientific thinking in bachelor’s thesis work, I chose to work on the project focusing on the investigation of fundamental scientific knowledge regarding fungal fungicide-resistance in genome and transcriptome level. This experience really elevated my abilities to understand and carry out research independently.

All my research experiences focused on microbial study, ranging from quantifying environmental impact on microbial activity to genetically modifying microbe for application to unveiling microbial gene function for fundamental scientific advance. And these special experiences direct my interest in research area where the multidisciplinary approaches are employed to reveal fundamental mechanism that enable microbe to interact with the environment and can lead to the advance of application.

I believe my solid foundation in Biological Science, combined with my extensive research experiences focusing on microbial study, will guarantee my competence in scientific training offered by xx. The specialization, offering a research-oriented education and ample choices in microbiology, will provide me valuable opportunities to explore the infinite possibilities at the research area of my interest. Xx University is the place where I will start my graduate research and approach the dream of being a biologist.
