---------------------------------------------------------

The two pie charts plot the percentage of British students at an English-based university who can speak foreign languages besides their English in 2000 and 2010. There are six categories no other language, French only, German only, Spanish only, another language, and two other languages.

Overall, the proportion of English-speaking students who could use at least one foreign language increased after 10 years. Spanish, French, and German were three most learnt languages.

In 2000, there were one fifth of total British students who could not speak any other language except their mother tongue. Over two third were able to speak one foreign language and 10% speaking two other ones. After 10 years, the percentage of students who did not acquire any non-English language dropped to 10%, whereas the number of students learning Spanish, one or two other languages excluding French and German rose more 5% for each category. By contrast, French and German learners each shrank 5% compared to the results in 2000.
