Topic :

Modern buildings appears in large numbers, but some people believe that we should build our buildings in traditional styles. To what extend do you agree or disagree?

Essay :

Nowadays, more and more modern constructions have been built around the cities. Although modern styles are beneficial in some ways, I tend towards the viewpoint that new buildings should be erected with classical designs.

On the one hand, there are several benefits of modern architectural designs. Due to the technological advances, dwelling in modern building is highly comfortable and convenient. Most of modern houses are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, such as air conditioning or an elevator system, improving the quality of life. Furthermore, modern architecture can reduce pollution and environmental degradation. Architects have focused on green architecture by choosing eco-friendly building materials and construction practices to minimize the harmful effects of construction on the environment. For example, contemporary architecture can make use of renewable energy sources such as solar power or wind power.

On the other hand, I believe that the new constructions should be undertaken to adhere to the traditional styles. Firstly, it helps preserve customs and cultural values, which could boost tourism development in these areas. Take Hoi An, which is one of the most famous ancient cities in Vietnam, as an example. Local people in this city are encouraged to conserve the old architectures or construct buildings in a traditional pattern. As a result, Hoi An become a popular tourist destination that attracts million of foreign visitors on an annual basis. Secondly, traditional building styles make contributions to the diversity of building models in a country. By preserving classical architecture, buildings in a traditional and ancient format coexist with modernized building, performing different functions and serving dissimilar purposes. It also bridges the past and the present history, and reminds people of the heritages of a country.

In conclusion, while modern buildings have positive effects on people, I would argue that it would be better if more traditional building styles were constructed.
