In some countries young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decide to do this.
In several nations, youngsters acquire an encouragement in order to work, or travel in the gap year, which from finishing high school to starting university studies. If rich student have condition to travel, poorer students tend to choose part time jobs for their gap year. While there are advantages to posses a gap year, there are also disadvantages for that thing.
On the one hand, a gap year will help them to be more independent by themselves. In addition, solving financial problems is also an advantage of this year. When students travel or work, they often meet many different situations from problems about finance to accommodation, or other things. It is likely to study how to solve these things, and they will be more mature. For example, my cousin, Tuan, who is a couch potato, and usually depend on his mom about money. Since he decided to work in a laundromat, he has been a hardworking person, and known how to save his money which he earned. The other reason is that taking a gap year is great for expanding social relationships. Communicating with new people such as customers, or native speakers if they travel abroad will help them to be more sociable.
On the other hand, some people do not want to come back an academic environment. The reason is they prefer doing something completely different to getting a university's course. But I think it is less likely today when academic qualifications are essential for getting a later reasonable career, and a diploma will obtain a higher income against none-college-educated workers.
In conclusion, I would argue that benefits of taking a gap year are outweigh the drawbacks, because travelling, or working will bring for students the relaxation as well as new experiences, and skills to solve problems for the later university life
