Some people think news has no connection to people's lives. Therefore, it is a waste of time to read newspaper and watch television news programs. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is argued that reading newspapers and watching television news programs is a waste of time since news is irrelevant to people’s lives. I partly agree with this statement as I believe that although it is pointless to read newspapers and TV news, still have connection to people’s lives.

To begin with, news and TV programs have many connections to daily life. News is often categorized into different topics and people can read news, watch TV news about their own interest in order to stay up to date about that field. For example, while sport-minded person might often search for sport news to update about his or her favorite sport or athletes. In addition, since news provides information about natural disasters, people in the dangerous zones can read it to move to another place or prepare for the catastrophe. In Vietnam, there is often flood and monsoon which are often broadcast on TV news to inform residents in the centre of the catastrophe about the disaster so as they can prepare food supply for their family.

However, it is a waste of time to read news and watch TV news programs. Firstly, many publishers often prefer to publish news that are staggering but contain less informative news. For example, many tabloids publish articles about famous people or political figures in order to worsen their reputation. These kind of news usually grab an enormous attention of the public; however, reading them is time-wasting as they hardly bring any useful information to their readers. Secondly, although we can read several articles everyday, this rarely aid us to make a wise decision in life. The situation and the problems we confront in real life is different from that in newspapers; therefore, reading news to get more experiences for life is not an efficient way.

In conclusion, although I agree that reading news and watching TV are a waste of time, newspapers and TV news programs are relevant to people’s daily lives.
