Essay & Composition Writing

Please review my writing task 2 essay. Thank you so much!

People think that government should increase the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles to solve environmental problems. Give your opinion.

My essay:

It is argued that raising the fuel prices for vehicles can tackle the environmental problems. In my opinion, this is not an effective solution to these problems and there can be other attainable measures for these pressing issues.

To start with, it is futile to raise the fuel cost for vehicles since emissions from transports are not the main contributor to environmental problems and this solution can have a negative impact on the economy of many countries. The amount of toxic waste from factories is much higher than that from transport. Therefore, emission reduction from vehicles is a pointless solution as the environment is still contaminated by industrial waste. Moreover, some countries might be in a recession due to the inflation caused by the increase of fuel prices. Residents in these countries might suffer from poverty as they cannot afford overpriced products. For instance, when the petrol price increases due to the Russia-Ukraine war, the cost of living in Vietnam has increased rapidly, making life harder for low-income families.

I believe that there are other viable solutions to the environmental concerns. Government should design policies forcing factories to manage their hazardous waste as well as fining factories which do not obey the regulation. This might reduce a large amount of industrial waste released into the air and water every year. In addition, government should also encourage people to use renewable energy, hybrid cars and biofuels. These are environmentally-friendly products as they do not release noxious emissions into the atmosphere; besides, they allow everyone to use their private transports as people do not need to worry about the petrol price.

In conclusion, it is fruitless to drive the fuel cost up in order to solve the environmental problems and there are other effective solutions that government and each person can do in order to address these issues.
