Topic: Some people believe that reading stories from a book is better than watching TV or playing computer games for children. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
My essay:
It is often argued that reading books has more benefits for children than watching TV or playing computer games. This essay totally agrees with that statement. In my opinion, while reading books can help children foster their cognitive development, youngsters spending time on watching TV or playing video games are more likely to have serious health problems.
Firstly, children might acquire many useful cognitive skills by reading books. Not only can they broaden their knowledge, but they also develop their imagination. When children read books, especially novels and science books, they often need to envisage the characters as well as other details of the story. As a result, their creativity can be improved significantly. For instance, teenagers who read books for recreation tend to perform better than those who do other forms of entertainment in tasks requiring creativity.
Secondly, watching TV or playing video games might lead to many dangerous illnesses such as obesity or nearsightedness. This is because teenagers can easily get addicted to these types of recreation; therefore, instead of doing exercise, they tend to sit consistently for several hours. According to a recent research project, it emerged that almost children who watch TV or play computer games usually spend 4 to 5 hours per day on these activities, and they rarely do exercise.
In conclusion, it is better for children to read books instead of watching TV or playing computer games since reading benefits more to child’s development, and TV or video games can bring more harm than advantages to teenagers.
