Please review my Writing Task 2

Topic: Overpopulation is the world's most serious environmental problem.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

My answer:
In recent times, it is stated that population explosion is a major environmental issue. Although the rise in the number of people will negatively impact some aspects of the environment, I feel that overpopulation will not be as alarming as it may seem because of the stability in the global birth rate.

On the one hand, a rise in the population will amplify the demand for accommodation and food. As a result, mass deforestation will occur in order to construct facilities and houses for the growing number of people. In addition to this, increasingly more natural resources are consumed in the process of manufacturing goods so as to satisfy the rising needs. In short, overpopulation will lead to the destruction of natural habitats as well as the exhaustion of resources.

On the other hand, the global population growth rate has remained relatively unchanged for the last 20 years, due to improvements in pregnancy preventative measures as well as work pressure. In developed nations such as Korea, for example, the birth rate has lowered by 35% for the past decade due to career stress, which is the norm of contemporary society. As an average Korean spends around fifteen hours a day at work, married couples find it extremely difficult to take care of a child while maintaining work performance. For developing countries like Vietnam, there is a tendency for families to have fewer children due to the introduction of protective measures against unintended pregnancy. With the stabilization of the world population growth, I think that the environment is no longer threatened by overpopulation.

In conclusion, even though its consequences are apparent, overpopulation currently is not a major threat to the environment. This is because the growth rate of the population has become stable in recent decades.
