The media should include more stories which report good news. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is argued that news coverage should focus more on good news. While I partly agree with this view, I also consider that bad news should continue to be prepared on the media.
On the one hand, good news have a positive impact on public morale. Since happiness comes from good things, people are often inspired by these and therefore they have a more optimistic view of life. For example, there was a story about a 30-year-old man saving a little girl who was falling from the twelfth floor of a high-rise building in Ha Noi. The story was then spread over social media platforms and many people were indebted to him for his life-saving action. Also, they said that they were overjoyed to learn this news and motivated to do good things.
On the other hand, I believe that it is necessary to report tragic news events. In some cases, bad news act as a warning to people so that they will be able to prevent the same mistake from happening to them and their loved ones. For instance, if news report that there has been a series of abductions of young children from schools in the area, parents will be more cautious and closely supervise their offspring. As such, there will be less likely for their children to be kidnapped.
In conclusion, while some maintain that positive messages should be given more publicity owing to moral benefits, I believe that the media necessarily continue to report all significant bad news in the world today due to lessons that it brings to people. It is advisable that the media should balance the reporting of these two types of news.
