Topic: In our modern culture, we have less and less contact with nature. Is that a problem in of itself? Why or why not? Use specific examples and details to support your answer.

Many people nowadays spend a lot of time on technology, social media, sedentary pastimes instead of experience with nature. The increase in people living in urban and the lack of green spaces also contribute to human’s disconnection with nature. Some people don’t see a problem with that but I personally think that humans will die inside if we lose all contact with nature.

To start with, the lack of connection with nature takes a heavy toll on physical and mental health. People may not know that loss of contact with nature is the source of the problems, but evidence suggests it is. Specifically, people who spend less time to contact with nature are more likely susceptible to diseases than the other. These diseases include cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurological disease, obesity and other kinds of diseases. Besides, disconnection with nature may negatively affect mental health. It not only increases the risk of stress and depression but also causes physiological strain, which lowers their performance at work or at school.

Second, reduced nature experiences can lead people to place less value on nature. Humans are genetically programmed to appreciate nature. Not only does nature affect health, spirit, well-being but also brings material goods for production. However, many people missing contact with nature don’t understand how important nature is to us. They will ignore the importance of nature and less likely to participate in pro-environmental behaviors, which seriously endangers to our environment.

Finally, losing contact with nature cause a decrease in creativity. According to recent studies, people, especially working as artists, are more creative and active when they have chances to travel and experiences with nature instead of working in the office. Thus, people will both increase negative attitude and inhibit creativity if they disconnect with nature.

In conclusion, I personally believe that nature plays an important role in our lives. Breaking the connection between human and nature would be a disaster for humans.
