The best way to ensure the growth of children is to make parents take parenting courses. Do you agree or disagree?
Some people believe that parents should be made to undertake parenting courses to guarantee that their children develop well. I partially disagree with this idea as parents should freely decide how to raise their children.
On the one hand, enrolling in parenting courses can equip parents with several necessary and skills and knowledge about raising their children. For example, first-time parents usually struggle with their newborn infant in changing napkins or feeding their offspring. Without proper instructions, they would not know how to handle and care for their children most effectively. Moreover, participating in those courses can help parents deal with their troublesome children during adolescence. Parents usually find it difficult to understand and harmonize with their children in this impressionable and formative stage because of the generational barrier. Being taught about adolescents’ emotions and behaviour, parents could have a greater understanding of their children, resulting in a closer relationship in the family.
However, although parenting courses provide a variety of useful skills, I believe parents should not be made to attending those courses. First, parenting is an innate skill which parents can naturally acquire once they have a child. For instance, mothers instinctively know how to hold and care for her child. If they have any trouble, there are hundreds of books about raising a child; therefore, they do not have to join in parenting courses. Second, many parents have previous experience in upbringing and may have their ways to rear and educate their children.
In conclusion, it is believed that parents should be forced to take part in parenting courses to ensure the development of children. Nevertheless, I believe whether to join in those courses or not should be up to parents themselves.
