There has been an increase in the number of people purchasing online recently. Such a trend has considerable effects on the environment and various jobs related.

The rise of online shopping is both beneficial and harmful to the environment. One obvious benefit of this trend is minimizing atmospheric pollution. Since people do not drive their vehicles to the physical stores to shop, the amount of carbon dumped into the air would be considerably reduced. The decrease of such air would prevent the acid rain which destroys many constructions and the natural habitats. However, if online shopping is encouraged to grow, more plastic wastes would be released into the environment, especially the rivers or the oceans. Plastics cannot be easily self-destroyed and maintain under the sea for ages, which could do harms to several aquatic species if being eaten.

The growth of e-shopping has positive and negative impacts on people’s employment. On the one hand, it would open up various job opportunities for people, especially for those whose major is information technology. To maintain an online store, several kinds of positions such as web designers, digital marketers, delivery drivers, etc, are required. On the other hand, when online shopping is becoming increasingly popular, people who work at real stores could lose their jobs and face unemployment. This would place a huge burden upon the government to create jobs for the unemployed, which would take a long time and require a large amount of the budget.

In conclusion, e-shopping is gaining more and more popularity. This has both benefits and downsides on the environment and the employment.
