The bar graph compares the proportion of British people with no qualifications, based on gender and six different age groups from 17 to 64 in 2009.
Overall, the age of citizens without certificates in the UK was negatively correlated with gender, as the proportion of older women who had no qualifications was higher than their counterparts in the same age group. However, the pattern was reversed for the younger generation.
In detail, when it comes to the 17-19-year-old and the 20-24-year-old groups, approximately 6% and 8% of British men had no qualifications in turn, whereas the female percentages were similarly 2% lower than those of the former. By contrast, there were significantly higher portions of women aged 40-49 or 50-59 without qualification compared to male groups, 12%/ 10% and 17%/20% respectively. Moving on to the middle age group from 25 to 39, both sexes shared an equal percentage with roughly 9%.
