Dear Sir or Madam,

I am applying to your Master program of “Management of Innovation” with specialization in “XXXXX” starting in September 2012. My career goal is to succeed in combining the business knowledge and mathematic expression into a modern strategy of innovation.
First of all, some background information is necessary in order to efficiently evaluate my capabilities. In elementary school I focused on studying well at all the subjects, since I possessed a great desire to discover the wonders that surround us. As a result, I got prizes at some math Olympiads and by the end of the fourth grade I was chosen as the best student in my lyceum.
While in high school, I also participated in city and country Olympiads in such disciplines as math, computer science, physics, English, and history. Moreover, I have also been practicing martial arts, specifically Tae-kwon-do, where I also succeeded in winning gold, silver, and bronze medals in contests organized around the country. A special discipline and a renowned ancient quote: “A healthy mind in a healthy body”, helped me in dealing with daily tasks.
In May 2011, I have graduated from the XXXXXXXXX with a double degree in Mathematics and Business Administration. In my opinion, the hidden math beyond the business textbooks is essential in understanding all the minuscule details that make a difference in modern business. The international setting consisting of more than 40 nationalities at which I was exposed to during my undergraduate studies, offered me a good experience in dealing with people of different cultural and moral background.
While in university, I had the opportunity to work and travel in the United States, and thus getting money to pay my undergraduate studies. During the four consecutive summers spent in theU.S.A., I managed to get different jobs ranging from painter and landscaper to kitchen help and grocery clerk. In fact, the supermarket where I worked was a subsidiary of Ahold Co., and this was actually my first encounter with a great company. During my third summer I even managed to buy a car and open a small company dealing with landscaping and painting services. Nevertheless, I decided to continue my studies as I perceived that it was more rational to learn from mistakes made by other companies, rather than from my own. As a consequence, I ended up with a Bachelor degree in Math and Business.
However, the knowledge acquired is not enough in solving the riddle of modern practices in business. My personal belief is that a sustainable advantage in business is possible to achieve only if there is a continuous change within the business system. Modern corporations engage themselves in a never ending battle of product innovations. And those companies that succeed in dealing with this challenge are the foremost pillars of an efficient economy. As world economy is lacking a stable economic efficiency, I truly believe that my studies at the XXX will offer me an insight in solving some of the issues.
I learned about the importance of innovation while taking the “International Strategic Management and Policy” course at XXX. In addition, the business cases involving such titans as Microsoft, Whirlpool, and Apple, which changed a whole industry through innovation, increased the grandeur of innovation. The process of developing an innovative product fascinated me through its complexity and majestic importance in sustaining a company’s competitive advantage. The uncertainty which emerges when developing a new project necessitates a thorough examination of all the PESTEL factors. My astonishing academic performance in the field of mathematics, specifically statistics and calculus, could provide adequate knowledge in assessing the influence of each factor.
I want to further develop my professional career at XXXXX because your university possesses an outstanding educational system, focuses seriously towards subjects, encourages innovative ideas, and, last but not least, is a research university. Having discussed with some of your Master program students I realized that professors have a world class education and are flexible towards student needs. I believe that such a liberal environment is beneficial for an innovative mind, because where there is freedom of choice, research can rejoice.
