Letter of MotivationFirst of all, Let me introduce myself, I am Naveed Raza and currently working as an operation engineer in one of the largest fertilizer manufacturing company of Pakistan (Engro Fertilizers Limited Pakistan). I have five years of industrial experience in this company and total 6.5 years of experience including LOTTE Chemical Pakistan Limited (Petrochemical industry). Engro Fertilizers Limited is a renowned organization in Pakistan with world class operations and HSE systems in place.After my undergraduate, I joined LOTTE Chemical Pakistan Limited as Trainee Engineer, while in the operations department of the terephthalic acid production, I was introduced to the many unit operations and learned to optimize, improve energy efficiency and trouble shooting of the overall process. After one and half years of experience, I moved to Engro fertilizers limited Pakistan. As part of my role, my duty was Process Development, New initiatives & Modifications for reducing Variable Cost, utilization & conservation of energy resources. I am a key player for leading energy optimization projects by implementing modern techniques of engineering e.g Gas Turbines and Boilers fuel saving at utilities plant through hardware modifications and process control. One of my operational research based project was "Process Optimization to reduce Urea Plant Startup failure rate and ammonia pollution”. I proposed and implemented the modifications which improved the plant operation and overall energy efficiency of the plant. I also presented my operational research in “Nitrogen + Syn Gas International Conference” in 2017. I have been a team member of six sigma projects for process improvement and cost saving e.g “ ”. I have worked at all major machines and equipment’s of industry including Furnace, Catalysts, Shift reactors, Methanator, Compressors, Gas Turbines, Boilers, HRSG, Cooling Tower, Decomposers, Strippers, Absorbers etc.I have done my Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, Pakistan. This is a prestigious institute in Pakistan for engineering. The undergraduate curriculum in Chemical engineering introduces me to a wide variety of engineering subjects which include various courses like Fluid Mechanics, Mass Transfer, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Plant Design, Simultaneous Heat & Mass Transfer, Separation Processes and Engineering mathematics etc. provided me with a strong footing in the theoretical concept of Chemical Engineering.During my field work I developed interest in renewable energy and the reason to choose this field as a career is living in 21st century and having huge potentials of renewable energy resources, people in Pakistan are still deprived of the basic needs of life. The effective and efficient use of renewable energies in Pakistan can provide a large number of rural households in mountain and remote areas with affordable electric generation for helping low-income strata, milling, small enterprise and other needs. The good reputation of high-quality education standards, an extremely distinguished faculty members, and research facilities are the factors which have motivated me to choose Chalmers University for my MSc Renewable Energy.Pakistan is facing the worst energy crises despite of huge potentials. Yet, these available opportunities for solar, wind, biomass and environmentally-benign hydro-power resources as well as existing energy saving potentials have not been used so far. Presently my country is lagging well behind in the field of renewable energy. Thus keeping my interest and today's field demand in mind, I have decided to apply for postgraduate studies in order to broaden my knowledge in the field of renewable energy. By applying to the MSc in Renewable energy, I am aiming to enhance my knowledge of renewable energy systems, renewable energy policy, and energy efficiency. With this realization and my own inclination towards applied research, I plan to establish a Renewable Energy Research Institute here in Pakistan. I wish to introduce this field to ambitious individuals like me who yearn to contribute to its advancement and to carry out research that augments the technological advancement in my country’s industrial sector.Chalmers university school of renewable energies program is one of the best worldwide. Dear Sir/Madam,

This Letter of Motivation showcases my inclination to pursue Masters in IR along with emphasizing my capabilities in scoring good grades and subsequently take up a suitable role in the realm of International Relations post completion of MAIR. I have decided to pursue MA in International Relations at a time when means of communication are not exclusive only to the ruling elites. Today a large number of people know about governance, policies (foreign & domestic) and how they impact masses. This has affected IR in an unprecedented manner. Be it geopolitical posturing of nations in a unipolar world, climate change, migration, transformation in the role of international organizations, internal conflicts & armed aggression between countries, and how the foreign policy of nations get shaped due to domestic compulsions are some of the sectors within IR which are witnessing action. My family members and close friends have complimented my grit & wherewithal for deciding to take a plunge in IR in these exciting times.

One feels that both internal and external reasons impact an individual’s decision making skills. My internal reasons stem from 3 different events dating back to my school days which kindled my interest in IR: a) Participated in a debate on whether Mr. Mikhail Gorbachev did the right thing by ushering in the era of Glasnost and Perestroika in Russia b) The second one was another debate in town hall on the eve of Earth Summit held at Rio de Janeiro in 1992 c) At the time of referendum on Apartheid in South Africa, I told my father that it was probably the abundant reserves of Gold and Diamond in South Africa which is why the erstwhile Colonial powers were reluctant to make way for an equitable and just society. He replied with a question that can you explain the exact facts behind the phenomenon in detail rather than just making a statement? As a school boy preparing for a) & b), I was exposed to overwhelming information which opened a whole new world to me about how those who lead a nation and the common citizens perceive political challenges as well as environmental changes and respond to it. As for c), I looked for reasons but little did I know that facts are stated more often than their interpretations. By the way, I won the debates described in a) and b). Wish to state here that I’ve been hooked on to the scope of International Relations for close to twenty seven years now. I have always had an interest in almost anything the world has to offer, obsessed with understanding the way the world works, and why it works that way. By studying and exploring a diverse variety of interests, I found that my true interest is in understanding and exploring the way the whole of global society functions, which has led to my passion in International Relations. By completing MAIR I’ll be able to give direction to my interest in IR and achieve career progression. The external reasons behind my decision to pursue MAIR are a) Studying in Germany b) MAIR being taught at two Universities c) Comprehensive Course content and d) Our richly connected, complex world demands professionals skilled in international relations, an exciting field of study that presents a globally oriented perspective on issues that transcend national boundaries.

Just like International Relations, Criminology is also a multi-disciplinary subject and I was awarded a Gold
Medal in MA (Criminology) from BHU, Varanasi. I also presented papers on topics of Criminological importance at 3 national Seminars while pursuing MA in Criminology. The topics ranged from detailed Impact Analysis of Computerization in Banks {Titled Computerization in Banks-A Process of Development or Criminal Vulnerability published in a Book-Development without Disorders (Criminological Viewpoints), 1st Edition-2002, ISBN-8188289-03-5,Publisher-Vishwavidyalaya Prakashan, India and I was the youngest Contributor amongst all authors}, Critique of legislation to control Organized Crime, and Socio-economic Perspectives of Insurgency in North Eastern part of India. Other than this, I secured a) admission to pursue MPhil in Criminological Research from University of Cambridge, UK and b) temporary assignments to teach Post Graduate students of Criminology and Social Work at Patna and Lucknow Universities as soon as I finished my MA in 2000-2002.

I wish to work either as a Consultant with Government or as a resource providing advisory services from outside, and this notion has been cemented into place due to my present work engagement. One strongly feels that doing MAIR is a pragmatic step forward. Ten years from now, I want to be seen as a Thought Leader and Doer when it comes to policy formulation and implementation in IR domain, someone whose insight is valued by maximum possible stakeholders associated with IR.

It is my humble submission that I have strived to excel not only in academics but in attaining a perspective and point of view and it will allow me to not only understand the world of International Relations, but also contribute my own theories and understanding of the subject to the world. I sincerely hope that my pursuits in being a well-rounded and globally oriented student and individual has allowed me enough qualification to attend your university, and hope to further broaden my perspective by attending such a high standing university in an entirely new country.
