Should education and healthcare be free of charge and funded by the government, or should it be the responsibility of the people to pay for these services? Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Nowadays, education and healthcare play an important role in individual’s life. It is argued by some people that education and healthcare services should be free by using the state budget, whereas another school of thought is that citizens need to bear those services’ cost on their own. In my opinion, I hold a balanced view in this debate.
On the one hand, there are some reasons why the government should use their funds to sponsor their citizens in education and healthcare. Apparently, medical free are oftentimes exorbitant to the vast majority of people, especially for disadvantaged citizens who live in some secluded or rural precincts. Therefore, it would relieve the financial burden for the dweller and they will relieved of the worries about their health and make all-out efforts to work. In addition, education should also be prioritized. Undoubtedly, when chidlren are educated and have a broaden spectrum of knowledge, they seem to contribute back to the affluece of their country as well as gain a stable income in the future. For instance, many Vietnamese people tent to subsidize the tuition fee for vocational schools which have generated many generations of skilled labourers in various aspects in life such as plumbers, mechanics and so on.
On the other hand, there are some justifications as to why people need to pay for education and healthcare. It is undoubted that inhabitants should be more responsible for their health as well as dedicating more efforts in their studies. First, people would adopt a balanced diet and stay away from health-damaging habits to stay healthy. Furthermore, when students themselves pay for their tuition fee, they would appreciate their educational opportunities. Thus, they may attend classes regularly as well as finish assignments in a timely manner, which boosts their study productivity. Last but not least, the governments need to allocate financial resources to cover the maintenance and development cost of health and education facilities. Therefore, citizens can have a golden chance to enjoy more modern services and be satisfied.
In conclusion, I am convinced that the governments should use their national budget to pay for education and healthcare. However, citizens also have a responsibility to share these payments with the authorities.
