Education is not a luxury, but a basic human right and as such should be free for everyone irrespective of personal wealth.
Do you agree or disagree?
It is true to say that education is not a luxury, but a basic human right. Some people think that giving free education to all people have negative effects on students’ attempt to study as they do not have to pay for the fees, however, I am convinced that it should be free for everyone irrespective of personal wealth.
On the one hand, it is believed that free education has some drawbacks on students and the state budget. First, many poor students who have to pay for their intuition fees often put greater effort in studying than others. This is because they have to get good grades and outperform their peers, enabling them to find a wealthy job with the aim of paying for their loan since university. As a result, it is no exaggeration to say that being given free education will lessen students’ determination and attempt. Also, free intuition fee means that the government needs to invest a substantial amount of money on education, which is considered to be too expensive.
On the other hand, there are much more advantages are seen in giving free education. First of all, there are many poor people around the world even in developed nations. These people rarely have a chance to receive adequate education due to low income, so they should be exempted from intuition fee, which provides them an opportunity to study as others. Furthermore, knowledge of citizens is the decisive factor in the development of the country, so governments should invest in this field more in order to accelerate the development of economics, politics and culture.
To sum up, to ensure that everyone including the working class and the poor can receive adequate education, education should be free.
