Spoken communication is more powerful than written communication. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Some people believe that speaking overwhelms writing. In my opinion, while I agree that writing is more predominant, I also accept that speaking has its benefits in certain circumstances.
On the one hand, verbal communication cannot be substituted in some cases. When talking to someone face-to-face, people are able to use body language, express their opinions fluently, which helps them have a better understanding and avoid misunderstanding. By watching facial emotion, a person can easily guess the opponent ‘s true feelings and then try to behave more suitably. What is more, verbal interaction is extremely effective when notifying to somebody in the case of a emergency such as a fatal accident. A profound example is when applicants go into an interview, in order to be elected, they must have eloquent speeches as well as natural gestures.
On the other hand, when it comes down to some solemn situations, there is a necessity to utilise written communication. In case of inviting guests to the wedding ceremony, people often write invitations by hand instead of speaking in order to express politeness and respect. In addition, if students want to learn some vocabulary, they prefer writing into paper than talking loud so that it ‘s effective to remember. An excellent example is that in the court, lawyer ‘s words will be considered gossip if he cannot give any reliable evidence such as documents or signatures.
To sum up, from my point of view, it is hard to decide which types of communication is more advantageous. Each kind has its own strength and purpose in special cases.
