The old generations often hold traditional ideas about the correct way of life, thinking and behaviour. However, some people think that these ideas are not helpful for young people to prepare for modern life. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Many people think that conventional ideas about ways of living and behaving held by previous generations are not relevant to the present time, and they are not useful for young people. While I accept that some old-fashioned ideas can hardly be applied in contemporary life, I would argue that there are values that always need to be appreciated.
On the one hand, advancements in technological and medical fields have led to many changes in the ways people in the modern time think and behave. First, it can be seen that our life now is surrounded by technology; as a result, our communication methods are different from the past. Some old methods such as exchanging hand-written letters, or having face-to-face business meetings have been replaced by electronic mails and teleconferences. Second, improvements in medicine have helped to increase longevity so that people now can work for many more years. Therefore, it has become normal for people to change careers several times during their life rather than holding the idea of staying in one job like in the past.
On the other hand, I believe that there are some values which have been long established and held by preceding generations are still highly applicable for young counterparts. One of these is having strong family ties, in order words, being connected with one’s family, paying respect to elderly family members, and taking care of each other as these are essential for one’s well-being and happiness in life. Another important belief that is is that success requires determination and hard work; thus, young people need to study hard, learn to develop strong self-discipline, and work persistently towards their goals regardless of difficulties or challenges.
In conclusion, although some ideas held by the old seem to be out-dated, I believe that there are many others are highly valid and essential to the young’s happiness and success in the modern world.
