Topic: Students should be taught academic knowledge so that they can pass exams, and skills
such as cooking or dressing should not be taught. To what extent do you agree/disagree?

In this day and age, some people think that academic knowledge should play a more integral part than practical skills for students. In my opinion, I completely disagree with this idea and believe that we should not neglect the significance of fundamental life skills in spite of the indispensable lessons and exams in schools.

On the one hand, having good examination results help students to develop their study and career in the future. Indeed, if they always get good report cards while studying, they tend to have an advantage in acceptance into top universities because of their academic performances after many years of study. Moreover, when doing a job interview, especially for scientific jobs, the interviewer has a tendency to consider how much deep and extensive the academic knowledge of their candidates are. For instance, in order to find an appropriate physicist, the employer should ask the physical knowledge as a prior criterion.

On the other hand, there are several reasons why students need to learn life skills. First, in terms of cooking, it will be convenient if students live far away from their families. Generally speaking, cooking helps them to prepare the affordable and healthy meals on their own instead of eating out at restaurants. Secondly, attending skills building class is a great occasion for students to unwind, maintain their healthy body and mind after many hours of study. Consequently, after recharging their batteries, students are able to achieve many good examination results.

To sum up, I disagree that we should put academic knowledge first rather than practical skills. Both academic subjects and life skills should be taught at school in order to shape good students.
